The demo is the tutorial plus two jobs, spread across three areas: a forest training ground, a suburban house and a farm. It runs solo or with up to four players online, and it is free on Steam and through Xbox on PC.

It went live on October 19, 2026, before the release date was announced, and it has stayed up since. Playing it costs nothing and requires no purchase.

  • Free Demo — what is included, where to get it, and what it leaves out.
  • Demo Length — how much content the three areas hold, and why no hour count exists.

PC only

There is no console demo and none has been announced. The demo runs on Windows, through Steam or the Xbox app.

Why the demo matters more than usual

Dumpster Gang is a physics sandbox. Trailers show raccoons falling over, which is funny and tells you almost nothing about whether the controls feel right in your hands. Three areas of hands-on time answer that, and no article can.

The demo also carries the game's whole argument: four players, one job, a lot of loose objects and a man with a catchpole. If that combination is fun with your group for an hour, the full release is more of it. If it is not, no amount of progression would fix it.
