Dumpster Gang ships on four platforms across two dates. PC first, on December 3, 2026, through Steam, the Xbox app on Windows and PC Game Pass. Then PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in March 2027, with the Xbox console version joining Game Pass on its launch day.
Nothing else is on the list. No PS4, no Xbox One, no original Switch, no macOS or Linux build, and no mobile version.
The full platform table
| Platform | Date | Store | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | December 3, 2026 | Steam | Also sold through the Xbox app |
| PC Game Pass | December 3, 2026 | Xbox app | Included at no extra cost |
| PlayStation 5 | March 2027 | PlayStation Store | No PS4 version |
| Xbox Series X|S | March 2027 | Xbox Store | Game Pass on day one |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | March 2027 | Nintendo eShop | Switch 2 only |
| Cloud streaming | Not announced | — | No confirmed service |

What the platform list excludes
PS4 and Xbox One. Both last-generation consoles were left out. The game is a physics sandbox with four players and a lot of loose objects, and the older Jaguar-based CPUs are the usual reason that kind of build skips a generation.
The original Switch. The Nintendo announcement names Switch 2 specifically. Nothing has been said about a Switch 1 version, and the four-player online co-op requirement makes one unlikely.
macOS and Linux. The Steam listing carries Windows only. There is no native Mac or Linux build, and no announced Proton or compatibility programme beyond whatever Steam itself reports.
Mobile. No iOS or Android version exists or has been mentioned.
Controller and language support
On the PC side, the Steam listing advertises full controller support, so a gamepad is a first-class way to play rather than a workaround. The demo is playable the same way.
Interface and subtitles ship in ten languages:
- English
- Simplified Chinese
- French
- Italian
- German
- Spanish (Spain)
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Russian
Audio is English. There is no Polish, no Traditional Chinese and no Turkish localisation in the current list, which is worth knowing if you were planning to play with a group that needs one of them.
What "platform" does not settle
Three questions sit outside the platform list and change the buying decision more than the list itself:
- Crossplay. If a PS5 player cannot join a PC friend, the platform choice becomes a social decision rather than a technical one. Nothing has been announced.
- Cross-save. No cloud save transfer between platforms has been described. A save that stays on Steam stays on Steam.
- Cross-buy. Buying on PC has not been announced to grant a console copy, and the reverse is equally unstated.
Which platform suits which player
Steam, if you want it first. The only version playable in 2026, with the demo, full controller support and family sharing. The trade is that you buy it before any review of the full game exists.
PC Game Pass, if you already subscribe. The same build, no purchase, and the cheapest December. Access ends when the subscription does.
Xbox Series X|S, if the living room wins. The console version arrives in March 2027 with Game Pass on day one, which makes it the cheapest console route.
PS5, if the group is on PlayStation. March 2027, no PS4 version, and no demo before then.
Switch 2, if portability is the point. March 2027, Switch 2 only, with the performance question still open.
What is not a platform, yet
Three things get confused with platforms in this game's discussions, and none of them is confirmed.
Cloud streaming. No service has announced Dumpster Gang. Playing it on a TV through a streaming app is not possible as far as anything public says.
Handheld PCs. A Steam Deck or a Windows handheld runs the Windows build, so it counts as PC, not as a platform of its own. Whether it runs well is a separate question, and Valve's compatibility rating for the game has not been published.
Mobile. No iOS or Android version exists. The touch controls a four-player physics sandbox would need are their own design problem, and nothing suggests one is being made.
Picking a platform today
If you want to play in 2026, PC is the only option, and the free demo lets you test it before the price exists. If you want to play on a console, the practical answer is to wait for March 2027 and watch which store opens first, because none of the three console storefronts has a purchasable listing yet.
One thing that will not change
The demo is PC only and free. Whatever platform you eventually buy on, the demo is the cheapest way to find out whether four raccoons in a physics sandbox is fun for your group.
Store availability is also the reason the platform table has no prices on the console rows: only Steam and the Microsoft Store have live listings, and the other three storefronts have nothing to buy yet.
One consequence of that gap: a group deciding where to buy has to compare a live product with a promise, and the only fair way to do it is to treat the December launch as the purchase and the March window as a separate decision.
